Annual Outdoor Degree

A little bit about our annual outdoor degree
King Solomon Lodge #138 held it's first outdoor Master Mason's degree on December 9, 2000 at Past Grand Master William G "Bill" Mathis' river plantation. We have held the event annually ever since. The dates have moved around a little over the years due to weather. That first year, the candidates started turning blue and one even said it took 3 days for his teeth to quit chattering. Needless to say it was quite cold that evening. We seem to have settled in on holding it as close to the full moon in March as possible each year. Attendance is growing every year and we have even had visitors from as far away as Uruguay. A good time and a great meal is always enjoyed by all. Please take a moment to view the slideshows below of some pictures from the degrees held in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

How to get there

Click here for a Google Map Link

The Google map will get you to the entrance road which is marked by 2 green numbered signs with white reflective numbers "4925 & 4939" on the mailbox post. There will be a flag or sign there to mark where to turn. Once you turn onto the dirt road, it is 1.4 miles down to the river (very back of the field). Drive until you see the cars. Park along the wooded side of the road. We will have shuttle service from the field to the degree site.

15TH Annual "Outdoor Degree" / Indoor Degre

Picture
On Saturday March 28, 2015 our 15th Annual Outdoor Degree turned into an indoor degree. Due to all of the rain in the days leading up to the degree, the road leading to the degree site got quite messy and, unfortunately, we had to make the decision to move the degree to our lodge. We truly regret not being able to hold the degree outdoors but Mother Nature took control. We still raised all 5 candidates and had a good crowd in attendance. We appreciate the attendance by all and especially those who traveled from Jerusalem Lodge #95 in Hookerton, NC and William T Bain Lodge #231 in Raleigh, NC. The brothers raised that night are shown in the front row of the picture. L-R: Ashley Weaver of St. Johns Lodge #1, Dean White of Federal Point Lodge #753, Jason Morgan of Federal Point Lodge #753, Daniel Mysuik of King Solomon Lodge #138, and Jeremy Hannah of Oak Island Lodge #758. Congratulations to each of you. We look forward to announcing the date for next year's event which should be as close as possible to the full moon in March.

Our 14th Annual Outdoor Degree was held on Saturday April 12th, 2014

13Th ANNUAL OUTDOOR MASTER MASON DEGREE
Saturday March 23, 2013

This year the degree was once again threatened by rain but we got lucky this time. The crowd was a little smaller this year because of the threat of bad weather but those who came really had a great time. Four Brothers were raised this year under clear skies and a full moon. We will hold this event every year so start planning for next year. We always try for the weekend closest to the full moon in March. Here are some pictures from this year's degree.

12th Annual Outdoor Degree held Saturday March 31st, 2012.

As most of you know by now the rain forced us to move indoors. The degree was held at King Solomon Lodge #138 in Burgaw and we raised 5 brothers to the sublime degree of Master Mason. We had a great meal and enjoyed a lot of fantastic fellowship. Some pictures are posted below. Start thinking about next year! We will try it again as close as possible to the full moon in March.
